Antidiabetic efficacy of Swertia chirayita extract in streptozotocin induced diabetic wistar rats

The alcoholic extract of Swertia chirayita was tested for its biochemical and pathomorphological effects in streptozotocin induced diabetes rats. Streptozotocin produced effectively all the animals at 45 mg/kg b.w. intraperitonially. diabetic showed significant increase serum levels glucose, cholesterol, triglycerides, ALT AST a reduction insulin levels. treated rats dose 500 b.w with improvement compared to from day 3 post treatments till end study. also improved damage caused by morphologically pancreas promoting regeneration beta cells islets Langerhans.
